Press-straightening
Through-hardened or especially crack-sensitive workpieces can often not be straightened by the bend-straightening method. The manual methods of thinning or press-straightening have long been used in these cases.
In these methods the workpiece is measured and placed on a broad supporting anvil with the bend pointing downwards. The hard surface is then compacted locally with a straightening hammer. This stretches the upper edge fibres. The increase in the compressive internal stresses and elongation of the edge fibres at the pressure point causes a reduction in the bend.

Thanks to further developments in mechanical and control equipment, these methods are now also applied successfully in automatic MAE straightening machines, optionally also in combination with the bend-straightening method.
